Antique Shops in Southern Maine - Part 4

One more stop on my antiques shops adventure: The York Antiques Gallery.

The owner, Connie Greer, was on the phone, but called out a happy “hello.” This place looks modest from the road, but once inside, you will see that it is huge! There are four floors of merchandise in room settings.

I learned there are 80 long-time dealers exhibiting here. Connie told me collectors and decorators frequent her gallery. I could see why. I loved the wooden carousel ponies and imagined riding them back to Reed’s upright music box.

The unique room settings go on and on. You can step inside each setting and imagine items in your own home. Items large and small invite you to closely inspect them or step back and admire. And if you get tired by the time your reach the fourth floor, there are wooden benches where shoppers can rest and look back upon the floors below. This is one fine barn full of antiques! Connie offered to provide The Cliff House with flyers mapping out shops from Kennebunk to Portsmouth, and a statewide directory printed by the Maine Antiques Dealers Association. Pick these up in the brochure rack outside the Spa Boutique. I had no idea there were so many dealers nearby! There isn’t a better place to shop for antiques IN THE WHOLE USA than Route One from Wells to York.

By now my feet were tired, but my mind was somersaulting with all the beautiful things I had seen. I returned to The Cliff House and the serenity of the ocean view. The terrace above the connector was decked out for fall. Monarch butterflies were sipping sweet nectar as sustenance for their long migration to the tip of Florida. From my balcony, I watched a sailboat tact on a gusty southwest wind, its rail sluicing the swells. There isn’t a lovelier view ON THE SOUTH COAST OF MAINE than here at The Cliff House.

PS: Until you can visit these shops in person, you can visit their Web sites.
