Antique Shops in Southern Maine - Part 2

A few miles before the Ogunquit line I pulled off Route One in Wells, turning right at the big green sign, R. Jorgensen Antiques, and continued up the drive by beautifully manicured gardens. Then I saw it: the legendary, espaliered pear tree against the side of the big red building. It was a hint at the treasures behind the wall.

You will see eleven extensive showrooms of fine period antiques from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, both formal and country. I hope when you stop in, your guide is the expert and founder, Mr. Jorgensen. He told me how he and his wife, Rebecca, began this endeavor and how there are now three generations of the Jorgensen family there.

We walked along a tranquil path to another building. He showed me sideboards from Spain and highboys from England. With him as inspiration, one quickly understands why this family has a reputation for their knowledge and integrity. It was time to go, but not until I had purchased the perfect set of Dominoes.
